As we are now seeing some forum posts about Samsung releasing a firmware update in November for proper eARC support it is also worth trying to get further clarification on the exact HDMI version required from Samsung.

At the start of the day, after powering on all devices at the plugs, everything works fine. Sky Q sound is coming out the soundbar in the correct lip sync timings and the whole system works fine.

However, once any part of the system is put into standby usually all 3 devices and I come back later in the day to put Sky Q back on the TV will not correctly connect to Sky Q or show any picture etc.

You instead get some message about ensuring the power is on for that HDMI connection. The only way to fix it at this point is to pull the Sky Q plug out of the mains….

I was watching Top Gear on Dave HD the other day, the recent one with the northern guys presenting actually very good.

Still, not quite right though - it always looks a little off The lip sync drives me nuts when I see it.

I spend the whole program with the HDMI delay popup over the screen trying to play about with it but without ever hitting it right on Most of the above was my waffle on Samsung firmware, but is Sky doing any work to help better support compatibility with sound bars?

In particular, it would be nice if Sky Q worked correctly when passed through the soundbar to the TV i.

Got a reply over on the Samsung forums indicating someone using a Denon sound system having the same issue.

Basically I found the only way to run this set up was as follows. If you run Arc from tv to soundbar with Sky Q, you'll get lip sync problems with any Dolby Digital source.

Plain audio on SD is fine though using Arc. This turns Q box on and tv on. It works perfectly, no lip sync problems, no black screen, no sound without picture problems etc, it just works perfect and, it's the ONLY WAY I've found all 3 to work as intended.

Small press of power button on Q remote to turn Q box off, once picture does black, press and hold power button again on Q remote until 'Bye' appears on soundbar.

Tv will have also been turned off which is what is turning soundbar off. I am going to have another go at changing the audio delay via the Sky Q settings rather than the TV resetting the latter to 0 ms else it just compounds the problem to try to get it working with the soundbar again.

I'm sure I saw it working better like that at one point. If I get any better results I'll post another update.

I understand that using the TVs built in apps presents a 'pain' if not using the Arc function. It's basically why I don't use them myself.

This of course would limit sound from the built in apps to Dolby Digital 5. Best of luck with finding a solution. I have a Samsung q tv with a q90r soundbar and have the same issues as you.

I have just contacted Samsung about the issue again. Starting to wish I had gone for Sony equipment now.

Both developed faults in a short space of time, stuff I could never get fixed. The NW would never work properly with optical audio, it always caused some issue I can't even remember now.

Bought it from John Lewis and sent it back a couple of times for repairs but they never did fix the issue, nor identify what was causing it.

I think when I upgraded my other kit to full HDMI and stopped using optical audio the problem went away I also never liked the Sony cross-menu system either Pretty much swore off buying anything from Sony again by then.

Looking that online Sony or otherwise shows it is a surge fault indicator, usually when a speaker wire gets shorted or exposed in some way.

After much faffing with audio delay settings on both TV and Sky Q, I came to the conclusion that the audio was arriving AFTER the video signal - so delaying the audio only increased the issue.

This was confirmed by turning the setting off - the audio immediately synced with the video. I have Sky Cinema and Sky Sports HD and obviously want to have the full effect of Atmos, but my understanding is that there is no fix currently for the lip sync delay when the Q box is plugged into the TV.

However, I now get a black screen for 2 - 4 seconds, anywhere between every 15 minutes to every 20 seconds, eventually leading to black screen constantly until i reset the box.

I'm using the officially provided HDMI cables from Samsung and Sky - and have never had an issue viewing 4K content on the TV previously, both from inbuilt apps Netflix, amazon prime and form a 4k Blueray player.

I did notice where UHD was selected, that random pixels would flash. Its particularly noticeable but not limited to Netflix, on thew start up screen where its all black, just random individual pixels firing and going off.

I did speak to Sky about this, who said that its a known issue, and that they had been speaking to Samsung about a firmware update apparently but I pointed out my TV firmware was up to date on version Sky have said they will "escalate" to a tech team to "investigate" but not sure what this will actually entail, timescales etc or what a possible fix could be, although a 2TB box was mentioned as having earlier version, so potentially being more stable due to having been around longer - having read the forum I'm not convinced The only other thing I haven't tried yet on this issue is replacement 2.

I believe this is something to do with "handshakes" between the devices, which tell the TV which source is active.

Not sure if this is a Sky Q box issue or TV issue, but it is extremely frustration.

Pairing sky Q remote with tv Thanks for that, not quite the same issue. All too fiddly at the moment…. Don't want link use 2nd wiring option as lip sync issue is a nightmare. Hopefully someone at Sky will read this and add it to this list of fixes for the next update Post 2 of It works perfectly, no lip sync problems, no black screen, no sound without picture problems etc, it just works perfect and, it's the ONLY WAY I've here all 3 to work as intended. That went on for weeks with me fiddling about with wires, trying to run it with everything disconnected no joy. Couldn't get anyone to fix it locally, the nearest Sony authorised repair centre was miles away and the inconvenience and charges for 'trying' to get it repaired was ridiculous.

Then one day the NW magically started working again, but I'd had enough of it at that point We understand that having sound that does not sync with the display occur with any type of external device that you connect to the TV, we recommend to use those while the TV is using its own built-in speakers to see the difference.

As for the Sky TV box, you may secure the aerial connection, retune the channels, and perform a software upgrade. Please try the troubleshooting steps below:.

Ensure that the aerial cable will properly and will firmly be connected to the Sky TV box. Check the Sky TV box's settings, upgrade its software, and retune the channels.

View random channels on the Sky TV box. Press the 'Home' button on the TV remote, select 'Source', and check the each input source. Haven't bothered connecting Sky Q through the sound bar with this firmware as I can't see it making any difference anyway.

With these issues outstanding Sky are going to be losing money from Sky Store rentals which we have used in the past.

Come on Sky, sort it out I had terrible lip-sync issues with the Samsung N Version of your soundbar with Sky Q via ARC so this seems to be a Samsung soundbar issue that has gone on for a few years without any sight of a fix.

I ended up selling the N recently and went back to Bose on a Bose with rears. No issues since changing back.

To note I have tried other systems, including Sony soundbars and 5. More from Sky. Sign In. This website uses cookies Cookies help us give you a better service e.

Some have found that works. Cant seem to find HDMI color. Thank you. Something is not right as I have set the correct settings according to the samsung e-manual.

What is perplexing is that it was working before. Yep, the blue screen is misleading, I thought the same and therefore did not accept setting and it timed out to again.
